Velomobiles in the TABR. Do they belong?

Last I checked the two velomobiles in the Trans America Bike Race were currently in 1st and 3rd. Are they bicycles? Do they belong in their own category? Where do they pack all of their stuff? How would you feel about them in a bike lane? Will they make it over the Appalachians and maintain that lead?

Human powered, unsupported. There's no rule against it. That said, they aren't the safest or most practical vehicles out there; they're a devil in a crosswind,the pilot has a limited field of view, and they're prone to be an oven on wheels.

No, i wouldn't particularly want to see them in a bike lane, but rather them than e-bikes (smokeless mopeds), "whizzer" bikes, & other motorised cycles.
