they started as a two man operation out of a basement delivering by foot and by bike(cause the car was non-existent)? I didnt, until I came across this article about them using bikes to deliver packages in the northwest again for the holiday season.. I think it would be nice if they instituted this kind of thing in every major city.
Cool links. I never had given much thought regarding the origins/history of UPS. And if they were delivering stuff in Seattle on bike...well anyone who's visited/ridden in Seattle know those hills can be more than challenging!
Too bad, though, that their service has seemingly taken a nosedive in the past years. I hate the fact that if I miss a delivery, I have to haul all the way out to BFE to pick up my goods. And there is NO other alternative.

Those bikes are making it everywhere! I agree with Jason, everything is always late, beaten up/broken. I have friends that have had thier hours cut due to the economy. This would be a cost effective way to keep the business going during the recession. No gas, low cost maintenence....
