Stage 12 winner: Geraint Thomas (Team Sky Ocean Rescue) took his second consecutive victory, winning the climb up the Alpe d' Huez.

I could not imagine doing the Alpe d'Huez and then get right back to a high level of cycling the very next day.

Stage 13: In Valence, Peter Sagan, (Bora-Hansgrohe) wins after a sprint finish.

The most  interesting battle this year may be within Team  Sky as Froome and Thomas bring  back  memories  of Lemond and Hinault. The mountain stage next Friday should be a feast for us fans.

Tour de France spectators have been warned to behave. This years fans along the route have been a bit uncivil because of the Froome situation and ultimately only causing problems and injuries for other tour riders. Just another sign overall that civilization is deteriorating extremely rapidly now.

Omar Fraile (Astana) wins stage 14 in a breakaway victory.

Magnus Cort Nielsen (Astana) sprints to maiden victory in stage 15 in Carcassonne.

Here are the overall current standings:

More uncivil behavior, now from a cyclist on Team Sky. Gianni Moscon has been ejected from the tour for taking a swing at French rider Elie Gesbert Sunday. Team Sky now only has 7 riders, 5 which are 'workhorses'.

Monday is an off day. The difficult mountain stages loom in the final week.

Things are heating up for a wild finale in Tour de France 2018

Today in stage 16 the Tour de France was halted for 15 minutes after pepper spray from a farmer protest wafted into the eyes of riders in the peloton.

The Tour de France Loves Its 'Podium Girls’

SAINT-LARY-SOULAN, France — The daily ceremony during which the winners of the Tour de France’s various competitions slip into their leaders’ jerseys is tightly choreographed. And a key part of the ritual is a cycling tradition that many argue is, at best, long beyond its prime.

Each day, pairs of young women wearing high heels and dressed in evening gowns or above-the-knee skirts help the award winners into special podium versions of their jerseys, give them a trinket and, eventually, deliver chaste kisses.

The race organizer, the Amaury Sport Organization, officially calls the women “Tour hostesses.” They are universally referred to as “podium girls.”

Like many jobs at the Tour de France, their hours are long, their days often hectic and the glamour overstated. For many women, particularly those involved in cycling, the routine seems out of touch, if not offensive, in the 21st century.

'F#ck You!'

Chris Froome screams at French cop after he knocks him off his bike.

'Who said cycling was boring?'

Stage 18: Arnaud Demare (Groupama) wins in Pau as Geraint Thomas keeps the yellow jersey.

Today, stage 19, the final mountain stage from Lourdes to Laruns will be the most grueling in this year's race and will most likely decide who ultimately will get to the podium in Tour de France 2018.

Stage 19 indeed said a lot  about the podium.  I think 1 and  2 are clear.  Roglic was valiant today but only holds 13 seconds on Froome for the final spot  on the podium. All are strong time trial riders so it looks  like the final spot on the podium will be  decided  in the time trial  absent a disaster for Thomas or Dumoulin.  The  descents in  the fog were  crazy.
