Milwaukee Ave from Chicago to Erie has some fresh blacktop!

On Wood? Seriously?

Strangest thing--Big beautiful new sharrows painted on Wood north of Augusta all of the way to Ellen.  And a crew was marking some lines on the block of N. Wicker Park Ave. southeast of Wolcott.  Is this useless pavement marking going to be part of the cycling infrastructure the City is touting?

Seriously.  And this morning when I rode by N. Wicker Park Ave (one way west-bound for a BLOCK) I saw a dashed double yellow line about five feet from the cars parked on the south side of the street.  A contra-flow bike lane for a BLOCK?

And here it is on Facebook: didn't realize they were doing a contraflow lane & neighborhood greenway there.

I live near there and obviously neither did I!

I saw the Wood Street sharrows today. I haven't seen the contraflow lanes on Wicker Park yet. I don't know if this is evidence that CDOT has "no plan" or a "stupid plan," but I am convinced that those are the only two plausible choices.

At first I thought this might be the work of someone I know who's making his own sharrow stencil so that he can make renegade greenways all over the place.

That would make more sense!  But I saw real trucks with real construction type people last night.  I have heard that Steven Vance will be blogging about it on Streetsblog today.

You guys are so on top of road construction, I wonder if you'd be into giving me some feedback on this map I drew for Critical Mass tomorrow?

It's a Pedicab Solidarity Ride to protest the new ordinance restricting pedicabs and banning them from State St. and Michigan Ave. I won't have a chance to pre-ride this in time, but maybe you all could holler if you spot an obvious trouble spot that maybe I missed?

Thanks!

Looks like you go the wrong way west on Ohio. You might want to go Ontario instead.

That short stretch of Oak between LaSalle and Wells is a bit of a minefield. I'd prefer LaSalle to Chicago to Wells a couple of blocks south. That left turn onto Fullerton from Clark is going to be challenging, as would that whole stretch of Fullerton west to Halsted. An alternate might be losing Clark entirely, take Lincoln northwest to the soft right onto northbound Halsted.

Kevin makes a great points with the Clark/Fullerton business. Another tricky intersection might be Elston/Fullerton/Damen. Other than that, I love this route. Especially since it ends at Do Division. Viva la summer!!

SB Elston was a graded surface on the block or so north of Irving Park this morning.
