Beverly folks - just got back from a ride where I found that the perpetually cratered section of 105th St. from Bell to Oakley is ground down for repaving.  Have you seen any other new construction projects around the neighborhood?

Repaving on Wells from Chicago to North is now complete in both directions.

There are crews putting in the striping for the buffered bike lanes on Wells this morning, right now between Chicago and Division. Looks like it will be an inside buffer.

 

I saw on my AM commute that Kinzie from LaSalle to Dearborn is getting striped as well. From LaSalle to Clark, I think it's an old-style bike lane that begins at the curb and swerves out to the left after a parking lane begins. Between Clark and Dearborn, it looks like it will be a sharrow/shared lane marking.

Inside buffer is the one with the extra stripes near the parked cars' doors. Not sure if that's proper terminology, though, just my own. Outside buffers are better, IMHO. Barrier-protected lanes are best. I need to work up a taxonomy of bike lanes.

The section of Vincennes ground down for repaving now extends from at least 87th St. (and possibly further north) to south of 99th.  I've heard that it will go as far as 103rd.

Found another today: 100th St. from Winchester going west at least as far as Leavitt.  But why not the last block down to Longwood?!?

Southbound Clark to Pratt is all chewed up and ready for fresh asphalt! Whoooo!

Last night there was a sign on the Kinzie bridge that it will be closed from tonight at 10:00 p.m. to Monday, 10-21-13 at 5:00 a.m.  I sure hope they are going to finish the darned thing.  I hate riding on those grates.

Experienced the mess on Milwaukee last night. Holy schlaMOLY. I almost feel like they should just close the street rather than let cars and bikes slide around together in chaos.

 

Did I see Steve Vance tweet that he saw this work would continue into December? Yikes.
