The Chainlink

On a cold Friday night, while riding his bicycle home from work, my friend was struck and killed by a drunk driver. In his memory we will be riding Critical Mass this month as well as hosting an after party at Junior's Bar, located on 2058 W Cermak Rd, where the proceeds will be donated to the family for court costs. Our goal is not only to raise money for our dear friend, but to raise bicycle safety awareness in our city.

Amie, sorry about your friend. Did you already post an event listing for Junior's and it's awaiting approval?

To everyone who contributed to last night's event- great work.

Such a large and diverse group of people who came together to keep Hector's memory alive.

Here's the ABC7 entry from last night (I don't see a way to play the clip, if there is one.)

H,

Your link isn't appearing in your post. Here's what I was able to find....

Bike ride honors killed Marine Hector Avalos

An avid bicycle rider and former Marine who was killed in an accident is being remembered by family and friends.

Hector Avalos was hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver earlier this month while riding his bike home from work.

Friday night, a memorial bike ride was held in his memory.

Avalos's friends rode in critical mass from Daley Plaza to the Lower West Side, where a fundraising event was being held.

Hector Avalos was a loving Son, Brother, Friend, Teacher and Marine. Please help support his family during this time.

Hector Avalos, 28, was taken from us too soon. Hector lived his life exactly as he wanted to. Hector spoke his mind and lived with his heart. He enjoyed learning--and teaching.

His passion was only matched by his generosity. A lover of nature, Hector did everything he could to be environmentally conscious by composting, recycling, repurposing and most of all, riding his bicycle.

On December 7, 2013, Hector was struck by a driver on his way home from work near the intersection of Ogden and Rockwell on Chicago's West Side (Douglas Park) while riding his bicycle.

I saw some mention of a Hector Avalos Fundraiser this Sunday Feb 23 somewhere. Anyone know anything? Google comes up blank.
