I personally wouldn't recommend Western Ave, Blvd, Street, Lane, Place, or any other iteration, or Ashland Ave., or Damen* to ride on but if Halsted is convenient for you, Halsted to 35th to the event ought to be fairly painless, or if you know how to get to the Loomis bridge over the South Branch and track south to 35th on Racine that ought to be reasonably pleasant as well.

*Damen is not bad for the most part but it's a nasty inhospitable concrete hell where it crosses the Stevenson
