With the levers where they are, it'll be pretty tough to ride off road. Will you switch back when you tack it to the trails?

I have allstate renters. They had a $200 deductible they took right off of the top. They also took a % off of what the depreciation value was. Luckily the trek 1200 of that year went up in value with all the carbon bits and pieces. I will miss her
I plan on riding the bars bare until I start off-roading the bike. They are pretty firm and transfer the bumps up to my wrists, the salsa bars didn't transfer so much of the road IMO.

I am really impressed with Surly. I have been through two steamrollers and will probably increase my stable in the near future. Your bike is a beauty. Are you leaving the drops bare? Those are real nice. Lock it up tight and keep it inside at night please. Although, sounds like your insurance worked well. Who are you insured with, this could be handy for anyone on this sight?

To prevent scratching, you can take an old tube and and wind the U part of your lock through it but it is bound to happen. And it has all been said before about the insecurity of cable locks. While yours is thick(comments from the peanut gallery welcome), it's not impenetrable. I use a cable lock too but don't ride really nice bikes, and don't really have to worry about theft like the city where I live.
