not tights

anybody out there have a pair of pants they like? i've been poking around at dick's and sports authority looking for windproof/wind-resistant pants but haven't been finding much. i've got tights for longer rides, but for my 5-7 mile commute, i'd like to just have some decent pants.

I use a set of "track" warm up pants made out of windbreaker material 2 sizes too big I got at tjmax on clearance with work suspenders. I find that they keep me fairly dry and protected from the wind, rain and snow (not windproof or waterproo but fairly resistant), for the purpose of a commute they work just fine, they also double as snow pants in the winter for skiing and sledding. The set up cost me about $15 total and given a 5.5 mile commute with fenders my legs stay dry most of the time.

what i mean to say is that i've been all over dicks lately. that is, in and out, so to speak. dicks has nothing for me. dicks can't give me what i need.

I wear a pair of Ibex softshell pants that I found online on sale. Ibex doesn't make the exact model I have anymore, but Swrve has a pair of cycling-specific softshell pants that are almost identical to what I use: http://www.swrvestore.com/servlet/Detail?no=107. I have the Swrve WWR (wind and water resistant) knickers, and can't say enough about the quality. I plan to pick up a pair of the swrve pants soon. The pants are expensive at $125 to 150 (depending on lining weigth), but I figure it's worth it since I'll wear them almost ever day thorugh the winter. Mixed with mid-weight tights, they should be good to minus zero temps.

nice, that's more along the lines of what i was looking for. i found a pair of fox pants at price point that looked decent as well.
that's pretty much my line of thinking, i mean i know if i go out to screw around or get filthy drunk i'll wear the scrub gear, but if i'm showing up and saying good morning to employees and riding them everyday, i may as well get something nice.

For temps below freezing...I got a pair of columbia snowpants at a thrift store that zip completely off. They ROCK! Going on my 2nd year and they are in great shape. I think they were 4.99 :-) I also have some jumper-style snow pants also from thrifting...but you're probably not cool enough for that kind of fashion statement ;-) JK!
