Bar mitts and studded tires served me well today. I expect to leave them on until, oh, late April or so.

It seemed I had LFT all to myself. There were long stretches where I couldn't see a soul on the path. Between Fullerton and Ardmore I counted 14 determined runners, 7 other weatherproof cyclists, and 5 fearless walkers (a few of whom were out giving their dogs their daily constitutional - so good on them). OTOH, I saw no namby pamby golfers, skaters, skateboarders, nor any basketball, tennis or soccer players. :-)

There is ice out there, so watch out. I was glad to be on a Divvy bike with the fat tires though. The wind gusts were harsh. I had to pull over and let traffic pass in that reverse wind tunnel on Clark at Lincoln Park West.

I ride the same 700x32mm tires year round, at about 50-60psi. In the winter I'll drop the pressure because cold tires ride a bit stiffer and I'll drop the pressure if I'm riding off road, but otherwise I don't feel the need to mess with it if the road has some snow on it.

I rode into work today on my 23mm roadie, got my ass soaking wet but whatever. The wife is picking me up, loading the bike onto the rack and driving to DC. Now I am questioning whether that was a good idea if we get stuck in snow fall the whole way out....might have to borrow a garbage bag from work to cover the bike in.

This has a section on bike tires for winter. It has info on reducing tire pressure for better winter traction. Check it out.
