Is there a "just doored" section because it just happened to me 10 minutes ago

I was just doored heading east on Diversey ave a couple blocks west of Racine ave by a hispanic man who didn't speak much english at all and drove off immediately after I tried "talking" to him about it. I didn't get a plate number because I was in a daze and I still am. I have road rash on my arms, but I seem to be ok... I think. I have weird head, shoulder and neck pain. Luckily I was wearing my helmet today because it cracked on the ground on impact. Otherwise there would probably be skull bits all over the pavement.

I didn't even know what happened, I just felt impact and my head smacked the ground. I'm ashamed that I don't have health insurance, but I just can't afford it.

Neck pain with a concussion is not a good sign.

Since you're alone, I would recommend just taking a cab.  Your health is more important than some medical bills.  There are people who can work with your afterwards to help with that.

so... waiting for a cab, on my phone. Are you any of you even doctors? I've worked at clinics before (business side) and they usually do a head CT to check for edema or other issues and then send you home after waiting 5 hours...

If someone can go with you, that's probably a good idea.  Please let us know how you're doing.

Were there any witnesses?  If so, were you able to get contact info for any of them?

Yeah I can call my roommate or maybe a friend, but most are at work at the moment. I was thinking of hopping in a cab to Cook County hospital...

Don't feel ashamed. You are truly not alone. I have not had health insurance for three years now.

I hope you have followed the advice of others who posted in this thread. Right now, you should be sitting inside Cook County Hospital's Emergency Room.

It's a shame that taking a cab to CCH ER would cost only a few bucks or so, compared to calling 911 and having an ambulance take you would cost around $1,500 to $3,000.

I'm ashamed that I don't have health insurance, but I just can't afford it.

I agree with all the medical advice.

once you are stabilized in a few days Active Trans Alliance has a crash support hotline and some helpful

resources. keep us all posted.

Absolutely go to the hospital asap.  Regardless of which hospital you go to they must treat you.

"Are you any of you even doctors?"

No, but have had 6 or 7 concussions 2 of them major.

With the symptoms you described this is the only option.

Minh,

I'm sorry to hear about your crash. Please seek medical attention immediately, do not compromise your health. There are funds available to help the victims of hit and run crashes.  Once you've been checked out and diagnosed please call the Active Transportation Crash Support Hotline at: 312-869-4357 for questions about what to do next.

Probably still waiting to be seen.

obviously!

I'm so sorry Minh! And I'm so angry at the driver! And I hope you are being treated and I hope you will not hate me for taking issue with the "I'm ashamed at not having insurance" - that s### is super expensive!! Who can have insurance if the job doesn't offer it! And even then, with what it would chomp out of your paycheck! Stroger, Stroger, Stroger! Good hospital, good care. DO NOT BE ASHAMED. Get the care and support you need. Don't be shy. And I hope you are not reading this but are lying on a hospital bed in Stroger.

Gail

Minh, I hope you are well & can leave this behind soon!

Chainlink, thank you for not letting Minh sleep today!  I think I had my first "Chainlink is awesome" moment today while reading this thread :)
