The Chainlink

Edited, details removed in case they are a CLer.  In October I had a bike stolen.  It may have shown up on CL.  I don't know for certain, I need to look at the serial number.  Is anyone here available to be my backup?  Or have advice on how to get a policeperson to accompany me?

Thanks!

This is one of my favorite recovery stories from 2009 when a girl found her bike listed on craigslist -http://www.thechainlink.org/forum/topics/my-stolen-bike

Nice!  I'm going to edit my post, in case he is a CLer.

Just had someone get their bike back this morning-- stolen Weds, saw it on craigslist almost immediately:

This one was stolen back in October, so I'm not too hopeful that it's actually my bike.

WOW. That's amazing.

Aaand it is not my bike.  He was super helpful and took photos on the serial number.

At least I don't have to waste any time getting over there to check it out.

I'll compose a chainlink thread about it with visuals and specifics (screenshots of ads etc.) after it's clear that there won't be police involvement... it's a pretty good story.

In the other case, a victim found her bike locked with another about 1/2 mile away. Called a locksmith to free her bike....found the other bike on CSBR and called the owner.

WOW. It's amazing what we can do as a community (and have). The CSBR has been invaluable.  Funny that it was born out of individual cyclists building it from scratch as volunteers and not a company or gov.
