I've had similar issues with my right hip and have gone to physical therapy to no avail (despite the $800 bill).
Are you riding fixed? Mine only gets noticeable when I ride fixed (as I rode ragbrai last week with no issues on my real road bike). Try stretching your hip before and after a ride, 30 sec x 3, ice, massage and a foam roller on the IT band (I highly recommend a foam roller in general).
I've also read (on cyclingnews.com) that low fiber diet can be a common issue with specifically right hip cycling issues - I'll try to find the article but I'm at work.
I'd also recommend seeing a chiropractor.
Thank you... I'm hoping it's just a stretching issue, but I should probably get a proper bike fit regardless. I do appreciate your advice!
