A couple times recently, I've had to go west and ended up taking Armitage. I really don't like Armitage to begin with, but that whole industrial stretch going up to the river is a joke. That whole bike lane sparkles because there is some broken glass and other reflective trash in the lane. It's always been like this any time I've ever had to ride this street. Is it ever clean? Anyway, I've had it. It's a really crappy road to begin with so what is a good alternative? I don't care if I have to go a mile north or south outta my way, but I'm done with Armitage.

Webster is a good close alternative.  It's just a couple blocks north of Armitage.  I believe h is correct that it's Cortland you're referring to.  North Ave is another option but I'm not a fan of crossing the river there.

Oh and no it's never clean.

Webster is the only other close crossing that's reasonable and light-traffic. North Avenue can be OK if traffic is just right (not too heavy) - you can come down from the north or south ca. Kingsbury, cross the bridge, then go north again on Elston (or Throop to Wabansia to Elston). It's fine if you can take the lane and don't mind doing that. If traffic is packed or close to it, it sucks. Even I will take the sidewalk occasionally in those cases.
