Police and a fire truck were on the scene around 7:30 tonight.  Cyclist was sitting at the curb so hopefully he wasn't badly injured.  These intersections need improvement — I doubt more flyovers are going to be built but hopefully some improved signage can be added to warn crossing traffic that they need to look carefully and yield to cyclists.

There's an underpass just a bit east of the crossing, it'd be great if the park district were to reroute the LFP to use it or at least provide connections between the LFP and the underpass.

Incidentally, I've noticed signage at the crossings around there, I think it's at Montrose and/or Lawrence but the signs indicate that cyclists on the path should yield to cars going in or out.  Regardless of who has the right of way, the crossings around Montrose, Lawrence and Foster all suck.  Drivers have poor sightlines and visibility of cyclists on the path and the the LFP dips to the crossings so cyclists are picking up speed when they approach them.

Copenhagen (I know, I know) has a great system at some non-lighted intersections where a cyclist's approach triggers a flashing red light to upcoming motorists who in turn remain stopped until the bike has passed.

It would be great if the park district would create a better way to use that underpass.

Incidents like this are a good reminder that drivers do have poor sightlines at crossings from Montrose to Foster, and that resisting that temptation to speed through those crossings may keep us safer there.
