Hey bike experts--It's time to swap my cables out--both shifter and brake. I've read a few different webpages about the differences about Shimano vs Campagnolo cables. There were several different conflicting stories. Also would like to avoid the situation of stuck cables!

I got confused when it came to cables that were labeled "shimano/campagnolo". I also got confused by instances of certain groupsets being cross-compatible etc.

What might I need? Strictly Campy, these "shim/camp" cables, or it doesn't matter?

I have older style Campagnolo shifters from the mid 90s. (note sweet chainlink jersey, thanks, Julie!)

The shim/camp cables have a shimano head on one end and a campy head on the other. cut the one off that you don't need.

what Kevin said

Above is correct but just get Campy cables; you spent the money on the group just go all in.

Thanks guys. Now I won't end up with the "wrong" cable. I still don't know exactly which end that I'd cut off, but--I guess I'll have to figure out myself by comparing what's on the bike currently next to some new cables. Chances are strong that it'll be all Campy assuming that the last person who changed them did it right.

Again, thanks for the help! If you ever want discounts on Timbuk2 gear, let me know!

I agree with dug. Get a set of cables and housing made by campagnolo. They're really nice. And you get to Support small business :)

Btw, the heads on each end of of the shim/camp cables are stamped with either an S or a C so you can tell them apart.

Cost really wasn't much of a concern--compatibility was! Checked last night--they're definitely Campagnolo "heads".

Thanks for the S vs C tip!

I have a Campy 1999 Gruppo. It's worth a few extra $ to get the Campy set. They are NICE !

Went for the pure Campagnolo--thanks amigos!
