I may not have the right http's on this, but there are several BBC clips about a safety project to protect cyclists in the London area - additional mirrors and under the chassis safety bars on trucks and having cyclists sit in a truck's cab to see what the driver sees and doesn't see.  

I always figure the trucks (and the drivers) are:

1).  Bigger than me

2).  Blind in many spots (by old design)

3). Do appreciate it if you let me complete a manuever, before proceeding

Dear Cameron,

Many thanks for the link and I will certainly look at it - watching the one cyclist's eye pop when she realized she didn't see the yellow-jacketed police/cyclist from the cab was quite impressive!
