Anyone else ride in the Apple Cider Century yesterday (Sept 30, 2012)? It was an amazing day for a ride -- 60s, cool n' light breezes -- and a really well organized ride with plentiful signage, nice SAGs, and a nice trail.  We completed the 100k (62mile) which shared its first 50 miles or so with the 75mile and 100mile.  We met up with lots of Chicagoans and gave out lots of links to the chainlink and invited a bunch of people to join.

Please post your pics and experiences with the ride if you have any! We will definitely be riding next year, and we'd also like recommendations for other group rides in the area since this was our first.

I love this century ride! - last did it a few years ago, but it's always so well organized, filled with fun people, and gorgeous routing! I am always overwhelmed by how much is piled onto the weekend it usually falls on, though, which is why I couldn't commit this year. Congrats on your first time, prof.gfr,  and I'm looking forward to peoples' answers to your call for pics and similar ride ideas.

What a great picture! I rode the 75 mile and the weather could not have been better. I've done the ACC 8 or 9 years and it's always a great time!

We got a flier on our windshield for the Colorburst Tour (http://bit.ly/QThHLg) in a couple of weeks. Lowell has some gorgeous scenery - I wish I didn't already have plans for that weekend.

Colorburst looks great - too bad I have plans that weekend as well! I'm envious of the unpaved rides as well as the paved. Does unpaved mean crushed gravel or serious MTB stuff? I can do the former but not the latter.

Went with about 8 others -- different distances.  Totally enjoyed the awesome weather!  :)  We skipped the spaghetti dinner and went for apps and whiskey flights at Journeyman Distillery.  If you go next year, you should consider that option.

Alan - Memories from 3 years ago!

Opps - Hilly Hundred I mean :))

I have to ditto what everyone said. This was my 4th time on this ride and I loved the route this year. Hilly and gorgeous. Thanks to the organizers.

Journeyman Distillery sounds like a plan next year.  We just brought a mini-bottle of Jamesons in my handlebar bag to spice up the cider at the spaghetti dinner. ;-)

To all who rode, hooray! Any color apple was a good one yesterday. I rode the 62. Ding! Ding!

A friend and I did it.  It was my first century....the wind....oh the wind....

Loved it though.  More hills than I am able to train for in the city but I felt great yesterday and today so I must have been better prepared that I had thought.

My friend and I are definitely going to be registering for the 40th anniversary ride in 2013.  I will try to remember to post a discussion about it closer to date for the benefit of other chainlinkers.  It'd be great to meet up with some of you at next year's ACC.

I rode the full century on my ElliptiGO. It was a blast! I got lots of curious looks and questions. To be honest I'm more of a runner than a cyclist but I wanted to get into the ElliptiGO Century Club and I chose to do it at the Apple Cider Century. I think I made a little ACC history as the first elliptical bike to complete the century there. It took a long time -- 8:46 total though I was only cycling for 7:30 due to SAG stop breaks. The wind and hills made it pretty challenging since my practice century ride had been done on a path with no hills on a hot summer day with no wind. I would LOVE to do this again next year but I think I'll be running the Berlin Marathon which (unfortunately) seems to be scheduled for the same day. My next organized ride will probably be the 50 mile time trial at Calvin's Challenge in Ohio next May. They have a special elliptical category so that makes it worth traveling to.

I had a great time this year and rode with two from the Chainlink and others from a team from RAGBRAI. I liked the potato soup and thought this year was the best yet. Arm Warner's to start and off within two hours. It is great that you can change your mind on route options on the ride and do less if you want. Here is a picture taken from the route. I will try to post a few more.
