My buddy and I have designed a bunch of bicycle-related pins. We're both graphic designers in Chicago and have a love for bicycling. Hopefully, we've got a pin that speaks to you! Consider making a suggestion for the next batch we're working on? Cheers all.

I was contacted recently by a group of 4 ladies who are doing a long distance bike ride. They are riding into the city on 6/21 and looking for a place to stay that night. Would anyone in a neighborhood north, northwest or west of the Loop be able to host them for a night?

I just got an inquiry from some out-of-state folks who are planning to visit here in June as part of a long distance ride. I have 2 route questions for you, and I'd be grateful for whatever suggestions you can offer from experience about routing for these two days.

They are also looking for a ride escort on each of these legs. I will follow up on that at a later date.

They are also looking for a ride escort on each of these legs. I will follow up on that at a later date.

1. Joliet to Loop - It sounds like they want to follow or partially follow Route 66 from Joliet to where it ends in the Loop (Michigan and Adams). I'm familiar with the route and conditions between Riverside and the Loop, but less familiar with it beyond that point.

What routing would you recommend from Joliet to Riverside?

2. Loop to Schaumburg - The next day they want to go from the Loop to the Renaissance Hotel in Schaumburg, which is close to Meacham Rd & I-90. I'm rather unfamiliar with rideable (non-life threatening) routes in and near Schaumburg.

What routing would you recommend for this ride? If you're familiar with only a portion, please say so and offer what you can.

I'd be grateful for whatever help you can offer on these routes.
SOLD _ Ortlieb Panniers - Back Roller Classic - Pair - Red. $100tag:thechainlink.org,2016-08-08:2211490:Topic:10067292016-08-08T16:09:31.330ZSteve Dennishttps://thechainlink.org/profile/SteveDennis232

Hey all,

Heading off this week to bike from San Diego to Miami. Expect to do it in four months (gonna take it a little slow). Anyone have any recommendations for good bike-friendly sites to see and/or restaurants in Phoenix, Tucson, El Paso, San Antonio, Austin, Houston, New Orleans, Gulfport, Biloxi, Mobile, Tallahassee, Tampa, or Miami? I've never been to most of these places.

Thanks.

Hello Chainlinkers! Just wanted to introduce myself and share a current bikepacking adventure with you-- worthy detours and travel tips most welcome! I'm Kristen. My travel partner and I are currently biking (unsupported) from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico, roughly following the Mississippi River the whole way. We hit the Mississippi headwaters at Itasca yesterday. Any former Mississippi River Trail riders with suggestions? Our pace is slow enough to allow for ample side trips and explorations, especially for unique and quirky highlights. Trip blog w/ map is www.bikebigmuddy.com and on Instagram #bikebigmuddy.

Since we LOVE biking Chicago's West side (where we normally live), our goal is to raise $1 per mile for the outstanding Girls Bike Club of West Town Bike Coop. By adopting a segment of the route, you'll get a postcard from whatever mile(s) of the river you choose. 100% of contributions go towards these worthy young female bikers, ages 8-20, who love learning about bike mechanics, riding together, and being ambassadors for other young people in their community to start biking. They even recently rode up to IL Beach State Park for a club campout. The group is saving up now to attend a national youth bike summit. Video and more in at youcaring.com/bikebigmuddy if you'd like to support youth empowerment through biking in Chicago!

Thanks for any help, travel-related or towards our cause.

19.5" TREK frame, TIG welded chromoly oversized tubes. 135mm rear OLD, 100mm front OLD. Rim brake only frame. 1-1/8" threaded headset.

REBUILT 24 speed SRAM grip shift Drivetrain

Shimano Alivio rear derailleur

New sealed bottom bracket

Chain is in great shape

New Shimano Alivio cranks Used but smooth

Shimano M324 combination pedals

Mavic 32 hole front and rear wheels with double butted spokes (in like new condition)

Shimano XT hubs - which are bomb proof and smooth as butter, and which also means the bike was converted to cassette cogs instead of the old screw on freewheels.

There is a piece of slag rattling around in the front rim and this is does not affect function or safety - read the following discussion for more information - Rattling Noise in Mavic Rim . I do have a spare non-rattling Mavic XC717 32 hole rim I will sell you for $40 if this bothers you, but it's a waste of time and money in my opinion to rebuild a wheel which I have ridden for maybe 2000 miles and has 8000 miles or more left.

Topeak Explorer rear rack Bike Nashbar front rack

The bicycle was kept INSIDE so there is very little rust. Paint is mostly intact but I made it ugly for parking in the city - hence the stickers....

Promax brake levers

Shimano LP brakes

Nice shiny bell with compass

Water bottle cage

Planet Bike fenders - the rear mudflap is falling off but this won't bother you in the rain since the front mudflap is still solid.

Trek seat - a new, softer Schwinn seat is also available.

Like new Hutchison tires which inflate at 90 PSI for city riding. I can offer you a new set of Trek 26X2.1 MTB tires and tubes if you need them instead.

Specs and description are found here for the original configuration. I rebuilt this bike, put on racks, installed fenders, and put on a Mavic wheelset, so I'm asking for much more than the Blue Book price.

MSRP original was $240 and I'm asking $240 for the bike, which is a very generous price with all the added features.

I am looking to leave late September, or early to mid-October when the weather is still decent.

I should note that if going all the way to California seems to far a distance, I would love even to have someone accompany me halfway, or even a quarter of the way as well!
