Newest Brewery Grand Opening!
That would be the Chain O'Lakes in McHenry, IL. The festivities start at noon of Saturday, 24th of August.
So . . . Let's meet at the Ogilvie Metra station at 8 in the morning and take 8:30 UP-NW train to Crystal Lake. Ride 9 miles to McHenry. After sampling what the new brewery has to offer (there should be music and a Raging Kitchen food truck), pedal about 19 miles to the Tighthead Brewing (tap room only) in Mundelein; then 4 miles to the Mickey Finn's in Libertyville (food on premises); and, finally, another 6 miles to the Lake Bluff Brewing.
Return options: ride back to Chicago; take the train from Lake Bluff (those who'd prefer to be back sooner can board Metra in Livertyville).
Metra weekend pass: $7.00.
Trails: Prairie, Millennium, North Shore Bike Path.
Overall distance: ~38 miles.
Minimum average speed: 10 mph.
The usual: water, snacks, spare tubes, sunscreen, etc.
More details to follow, if needed.
