Campaign Outreach Manager

Summary
The Campaign Outreach Manager recruits and mobilizes supporters to advance advocacy campaigns in the city and suburbs, with a focus on the Neighborhood Bikeways Campaign while also supporting Riders for Better Transit and Friends of the Lakefront Trail. The position manages volunteers to support field work while also implementing online strategies to expand Active Trans’ reach.

Primary Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Director of Campaigns, and in coordination with Active Transportation Alliance colleagues, volunteers and partner organizations, the Campaign Outreach Organizer:
• Develops and implements ongoing strategies to recruit and mobilize supporters for key improvements in bike infrastructure and public transit in the city and suburbs.
• Supports rapid response organizing activities.
• Organizes supporters online using social media and e-communication tools.
• Manages direct in-person outreach to cyclists and transit riders in the city and suburbs to complement online and press strategies, including canvassing, petitioning, traveling exhibits, small events and buzz-generating activities.
• Recruits and manages volunteers to support field work.
• Leads the development of a Bike Friendly Business program to engage business owners and managers in the organization’s work.
• Supports the Outreach Team with organizing Transportation Advisory Committees in neighborhoods across Chicago.
• Maintains and manages a supporter database.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
• Participate in Active Trans obligatory organizational events and activities.
• Travel throughout the Chicago region.
• Attend frequent evening and/or weekend activities.

Qualifying Experience
• Formal organizing training and/or 2-4 years of organizing experience (and/or significant volunteer leadership experience), including citizen mobilization, leadership development and strategic campaign planning.
• Compelling personal presence and superior communications skills, including written and spoken.
• Experience using social media and online communication tools for social change.
• Demonstrated success at recruiting and organizing volunteers and supporters from diverse populations.
• General understanding of bicycling and public transit issues.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• A passion for the transformational nature of bicycling, walking and transit on community livability and sustainability. 
• A commitment to Active Transportation Alliance mission, vision and goals. 
• Ability to work with persons of diverse economic and ethnic backgrounds.
• Knowledge of Windows based computer systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and e-mail software. Database management a plus.

Preferred Experience
• Experience in a non-profit organization.
• Familiar with Chicago and the suburbs.
• Bilingual: English and Spanish.
• Experience interacting with media.
• Experience with Salsa online/email software.

Term
This is a full-time position. The position will be based at the Active Transportation Alliance office in Chicago’s River North neighborhood, but it includes travel throughout the Chicago region.
