The Chainlink

Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

And this is from Friday evening. This "wonderful" FedEx driver got out of her truck and started yelling at me. "There always has to be one. Why can't you be like your friends and just bike around me?" She then started swearing at me as I phoned the police first and then her corporate head quarters. FedEx has yet to follow up with me.

This is on Milwaukee avenue right next to interstate on Augusta. Very dangerous to ask cyclists to enter right where cars are whipping off the interstate.

Sometime last week:

Three guys from the Chicago Building Department parking to get DnD coffee on Milwaukee and Chicago. Supposedly the department is handling it.

The gentlemen said that they were a city vehicle so they could park anywhere the $%@#ing wanted to. Classy guys.

Harrison St bike lane at Dearborn. Common spot for 7-11 semi unloading. Always makes the turn onto Dearborn interesting.

Yep, seen that problem many times.

Check out the excellent technique by this semi. He managed to get both the sidewalk and the bike lane. But at least he was polite enough to ensure he didn't block the car lane....

Pure Michigan!

(Milwaukee and Elston, open parking spot to the left. 2/4/2016)

I saw about 7 orange traffic cones in and around the Dearborn lane in front of the Goodman and Petterino's today.

The ones that were in the middle of the lane were no longer in the middle of the lane after I rode by.

Thanks Ben for documenting the problem at Milwaukee and 90-94, I have had many close calls there from people doing U-turns and even jumping out of their cars there to yell at me for daring to ride a bike over the highway. I even contacted alderman Burnett but never heard anything back.

Here is one at 200 N Dearborn, constant problems at that location. To go around you need to go into oncoming traffic.

Here's their Yelp page:

It looks like they used to pay Yelp to bury negative reviews but stopped recently.

Sounds like they aren't really "top class", more like bottom of the class.

Possibly 'legally' parked truck in what should be the bike lane on Washington where the protected bike lane randomly ends

That's such a pet peeve - bike lanes that randomly end like we all suddenly need to stop riding right at that point?  Usually at a spot we really could use the bike lane lines. :-/
