The Chainlink

Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

My Milwaukee Avenue bus this a.m. was in the new protected bike lane on the southbound side just before Elston...until the driver realized she wasn't quite fitting between the new concrete sections and sidewalk. Had to back the bus up. Got the feeling she was new to the route.

Ok, maybe I am off-base for thinking this but do you think this police officer doesn't understand the lines and what they mean? Is it clear to drivers when no one else is parked, how to park in a configuration like this? Just wondering if maybe signage and additional, instructional painted information in the lanes would make this more clear?

Sounds like remedial traffic law guidance for police. ;) The bike lane is marked- painted on the street and with a sign 300 feet west of this. So I would say no. There's no way one can mistake this for a parking lane unless that being just arrived from another planet. And even then, it would only require travelling 1/4 mile with their eye orbs open...

I think painted diagonal lines are a fairly universal indicator of don't drive or park inside of me. So even if from another planet they should get it!

Andy's pic on the first page pretty clearly demonstrates that many CPD just don't give a crap.

You should see what things are like on Venus. Squiggly lines, tiny circles, sometimes drawings of Donald Trump's hair- all indicating- well, who knows? But no one parks in the bike lanes on Venus.

hehehe. Ok, just wanted to give the benefit of the doubt. I don't regret it because the responses made me smile. Steve, I am impressed with the instance pic. Great bust! ;-)

;)

Hm. Room for doubt on that one.

Some of them believe they are exempt from the rules, too many of the rules. Therein lies a major problem.

80% believe they should not have audio recordings of their stops.

I though maybe it was a disabled person he was letting out....Nope a young couple.
