Historical video from the Chicago Park District - Biking in Chicago - then and now.
It describes that the "high ordinary bike" was prohibited from use in Lincoln park in 1870 because there were dangerous conflicts between pedestrians and horses because people were falling off.
The "safety bike" was later invented and park restrictions were lifted. Women benefited from this invention which allowed them to get involved in cycling.

The video also mentions that in the late 1920's Humboldt Park had a great Velodrome. Interesting !

Amazing.

I saw Joseph Kelley yesterday in Wicker Park.  He was looking quite dapper and extremely confident biking down Milwaukee Ave. through the Wabansia intersection during rush hour!

this guy needs a bike winter sticker.  I have lots of them . If you want one, please send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to K Schubert, 1113 W Webster ave. Chicago IL 60614.  This address should be also on the bikewinter.org website as it has been for several years.

Thanks, Kathy 'n Suzy ! Will do !
