9/5/15 Woman Cyclist 66, Hit by Car, Dies During Group Ride

A 66 year-old Des Plaines woman, Lonnie Wilkinson, was struck and killed, by a car from a cross road, while riding her bicycle with a group of people in Aurora Saturday morning, authorities said.

I wonder if ride marshals 'assisting' at cross intersections would have prevented this tragedy?

Reporters don't understand the irrelevant mismatch in a collision with a fast moving two ton cage versus a flesh and blood human being wearing a plastic/foam/padded covering on their head that is designed for something much less overwhelming.

Ride marshals 'corking' during group rides is sometimes useful to aid the flow of the group, and prevent incidents.

Including this fact can cut both ways. Maybe the reporter mentioned it as a dig on people who wear helmets. Maybe it was mentioned so that people didn't blame her for not wearing a helmet. Maybe it was purely informational. I note that in many stories about auto accidents, it is in fact mentioned whether the occupants were wearing seat belts. I don't think the reporter was necessarily criticizing anyone.

Not here.(in story above) Occupant ejected from car dies. I guess it's not important to mention seatbelts here.
