The Chainlink

While commuting to work on the bike I got a call from the pharmacy saying my order was ready. I told them I could come right away. I road over and used the drive up window (I had done this before without incident) but this time I was refused service for "safety reasons". No bikes or pedestrians in the drive thru. I asked if I could bring my bike into the store as I don't carry a lock because I can park in my office. The person said said "no". I told them I am already in the street with the cars and the person rephrased saying "it's a liability for us".

Every business has liabilities and that is why they have insurance. My view on this is they just want to keep there insurance premiums low. I'm sure there insurance premiums would be even lower if they didn't have a drive up at all so really it's a matter of there own decision making of value to risk. I would hope that the risk to business will soon be greater to turn away the cyclist than to pay the additional premium or provide additional infrastructure to support ride-ups.

If you want to be even more lazy about getting your meds try their option that is even better than a drive up.

Free Walgreens Med Shipping for the laziest of the lazy

I have been using the CVS (previously Osco) on Odgen-Milwaukee-Chicago for years.  Usually I walk up to the drive-in window because I have my dogs with me.  We wait patiently behind SUVs breathing in fumes, then up to the window.  I get my stuff, they sometimes have dog biscuits for the canines.  It's much better than tying the dogs up.  Also the Jewel on Ashland and Paulina has allowed bikes in if folks had forgotten their locks.  Just stick it here and thank you very much.  I think they realize that it is better customer service to have one's bike secure instead of biking back home, etc. If a drug store wants people to be fit and healthy, why insist that they sit in their cars?

I don't have a mail box - Walgreens discriminates against the postal impaired.  :(

I switch my Rx's to CVS from Walgreen's a year ago. CVS lets me bring my Brompton into the store when I pick up meds.

If I ever need a prescription, where am I supposed to go?

I stopped going to CVS when they stopped accepting NFC Smartphone payments. I started going to Walgreens for that reason. Now Walgreens is discriminating against cyclists.

Never been an issue at the West Dundee location.

I did have one pharmacist tell me it was a drive up, not a ride up, window. Didn't change anything.
