can you Captain on "Blind Stoker" ride Sat aft in W burbs?

My good friend John L. leads "Blind Stoker" rides for visually handicapped people, and we've currently got a few more Stokers than Captains for this Saturday afternoon's ride from Lombard (by the pool) to the "Cream of Wheaton" festival.

There are nice tandems to ride or you can bring your own. Metra to get to Lombard and ride one of John's tandems is also an option. If you're a strong experienced cyclist but inexperienced with the Captain's role, you'll be paired with a very experienced stoker and given plenty of help.

If you'd like to try cycling a little differently this Saturday afternoon, call John @ 708.917.5353 or resond to this (may see it later as out cycling now ;)

Jerome-

I will be out of town this weekend, and sadly, will be unable to help. Future weekends, please let me know.
Sorry I can't make this because I will be working but this is quite a coincidence since I was just looking at the lighthouse website to see if there was a way I could volunteer for something like this. Someone at the last critical mass rode up to me and me wife on our tandem and told us they have a program but I can't seem to find any info.

Do you know of any other opportunities like this in the city?
Kevin--

Glad to say that we found our Captains for this weekend. Thanks for offering to help out on future "Blind Stoker" rides, they've been growing (we had 8 teams last time, when we went from Wheaton to Lombard to smell the garden of lilacs downtown.)

When we're short on Captains, will be sure to let folks know here. If you'd like to be included on the invite list, please send John an email asking him to add you to the list at JNLESH @ hotmail . com

Best regards,

Alex--

Am not aware of such events in the city, though some of our Stokers ride Metra out to W burbs. Will ask John if he knows of other such rides. Suggest contacting city support organizations for visually handicapped, which is how John got these going many years ago.

Most of our Captains up 'til now have been CATS members (Chicago Area Tandem Society, http://chicagotandems.com/ ) and the organization in DuPage we work with is NEDSRA (NE DuPage Special Recreation Assoc., http://www.nedsra.org/ ).

Sounds like a great idea to get some "Blind Stoker" rides going in the city, we have had stokers request the lake front path, but have yet to make that happen.
