The Chainlink

I'm not sure how it happened, but I recently bent my sprocket. It's not a terrible bend but does make the chain fall off here and there, so I'm still using it to commute everyday. I have a replacement sprocket but won't have the time to replace it for a bit.

My question is, will the bend in the sprocket effect my rear hub at all? I'd rather not replace both the hub and the sprocket because I decided to ride on it.

It depends on how tight your chain is.  Loose chain, I wouldn't worry about destroying the hub, but your chain will fall off more frequently until you fix the ring.  Tight chain, there's a good chance you could pit the cups/cones in the hub due to the increased stress on the drivetrain, same with your BB if it's adjustable.  It might take a bit of riding if your hub was recently rebuilt, but if it hasn't been serviced in awhile, it might happen rather quickly.  The best thing to do is replace that chainring ASAP so you don't cause or exacerbate other issues.

I loosened up the chain just a bit and it started falling off constantly. My hub is no more then a month old, and I really don't want to cause irreparable damage to it.

Looks like I'm relying on public transit.

Thanks for the advice
