How about "sufferfest?"

The wind seemed to die down (under 20+mph) at sunset, but i abandoned at Sauk... 3rd (& 4th) leg was sheer torture for this flatlander. Not this year, i'm afraid.

Of course, today is glorious...

Did you managed to hook up with a group on the ride up to Verona or were you busting it all alone? Because...I thought that was the tough part (even in a group), then we hit the nut busting climbs for 60 miles.

It's always something with these rides...rain, wind, cold, tornado..it's not "just riding 180 miles" LOL!

Mostly rode solo. i was about 2 minutes behind the starting group and felt that the first bunch i rode with was cracking a bit too much of a pace for me so early on. Fell in with another rider around Edgerton and we raggedly rode more-or-less together until we hit the rollercoasters past Verona. i wound up walking a couple climbs (gears still not small enough.) When i hit about 35+ coming down towards US12 on Dunlap Hollow, i knew i'd never be able to climb back out. Bah. Was looking at time-limit elimination at Sauk.
Had trouble regulating body temp in that wind, my right eye was tearblind and the sinuses were running like a waterfall... Was doing okay at Cross Plains, but came unglued shortly after that. i need to toughen up, that's for sure.

Still planning to start the 400, though.

I'm planning on starting the 400 too....I'm still sore from Saturday's ride and it's freaking Wednesday! Maybe we'll have "less than epic" conditions...so that'll help a little :)
