I rode today. Had a nice little tailwind, though it wasn't much it sure sped me up compared to yesterday. more sunshine as well. didn't notice anyone else riding though. usually on nice days like this I'll see a bunch.

I had a couple of heart-palpitating moments on this morning's ride but they were worth it. Maybe it's just the weekend but I'm feeling pretty positive today. Good things happen when you ride your bike!

I went out today. First ride all year!!!! It was GLORIOUS. I was a little over bundled and rode through some snow (first time doing that!) But it felt SO GOOD to ride in to work.

I also shortened my commute by 20 min over the past few weeks on the train.

I know I'll ride monday, but then next week looks a little dicier weather-wise.

Just want SPRING to be here.

First for the year here as well (made it out once in both November and December). Was really trying to ride at least once a month for the year but January and February were just so, well, un-cooperative!

I'm already looking forward to the ride home and hopefully some melting snow...

I was hoping you could take a moment to cast a quick online vote for my father, Gene Tenner, and the excellent youth suicide prevention non-profit Hope for the Day (www.HFTD.org) led by my good friend Jonny Boucher. Both have been nominated (in different categories) to win Alderman James Cappleman’s 46^thWard Award. Voting is open to 11:59 PM on Sunday, March 9^th. If they win, they will be presented with their awards at an event at the Holiday Club at 4000 N. Sheridan Road from 6-8 PM on Thursday, March 13^th.

My father, as many of your know, is a tireless advocate for our community. He has worked hard to improve bicycle, pedestrian and driver safety in the 46^thward. He and I have volunteered for years to help refugees from the genocide and war in Darfur and South Sudan who have made new homes – and started new lives - in our neighborhood. He has been profiled by numerous media outlets – online, print and on television - for his work photographing parts of the 46^th ward – highlighting the natural and architectural beauty of our community. He has organized and participated in countless events to stand up against crime, clean up our green spaces and promote the work of other local artists.

Jonny Boucher is one of the most dedicated advocates for youth mental health and suicide prevention in our city. After losing many people close to him to suicide, he started Hope for the Day (www.HFTD) to help young people access and use the arts as a positive way of dealing with their challenges. Working with musicians, artists, concert promoters, music venues, students and leaders in the mental health community, Jonny has built Hope for the Day in to a positive force in the ward that is working to save lives.

With the return of the fair-weather runners and bikers to the LFP, I admit to some sadness, even while I'm enthusiastic about the warmer temperatures. So many lonesome rides in the dark, coping with icy curves and new gouges in the pavement, so much frustration with a path only half-cleared and still rather treacherous... I feel like I understand the LFP much better than these fresh-from-the-trainer racers I'm seeing suddenly.

Anyway - pleasantly surprised by the lack of ice on my route this morning. The next few days look like they'll be blessedly free of ice after the nastiness that came down Friday evening/Saturday morning.
