Gazelle Basic Dutch bike stolen 12/5 from Lincoln Square

Hi Chainlink community-

My beloved Dutch bike was stolen out of the garage during the night, about a block east of the heart of Lincoln Square.

It's a light grey, 3 speed Gazelle Basic.  Internal Sturmey Archer hub with coaster breaks, chain case, skirt guard, hub generated headlight.

It has a black, sprung Brooks saddle, mango/orange Basil pannier basket on the back rack.  There is also a coffee cup holder on the handle bars.  I think my extra headlight/taillights were still attached too.  One rubber spoke light on front tire as well.

Cafe lock on rear wheel was locked and there was a big ole' AUBS covered chain lock through the front tire and frame.  There is a white Gazelle logo is on the chain cover and the skirt guard.  There is a JC Lind sticker on the frame as well.

It's rather distinct.  I've filed a police report and it's been sent to the Chicago Stolen Bike registry. 

Thank you for keeping your eyes open for me.  This is such a crappy feeling.  I know most of you understand that it's more than a bike.

sorry to hear about your bike, I'll keep an eye out.  Was the bike locked to something and they cut the chain?

The AUBS chain was just through the frame and front tire.  Clearly not ideal, but no signs of it being cut, or cafe lock being broken so I imagine they carried it to a vehicle.

Seem to be a lot of thefts in garages and storage units.  

There needs to be some sort of mini rack (or similar device) you can attach a bike to something that makes it harder just pick up and carry out.

Here's an array of floor anchors.

It felt like this year there were a lot more thefts from garages, porches and storage units to me as well, but the data doesn't bear out a significant increase:

2013 (as of 11/18 there were 1128 theft reports)

Garage (191)/Storage Room (65)/Porch or Yard (147) 403 total (35.73%)

2012

saw 34.26% of theft reports for Garage (196)/Storage Room (67) /Porch or Yard (115) (378/1098)

I'm so sorry for your bike loss...just dealt with this on Tuesday (still dealing with it I guess....) I hope you find it. I'm checking CL throughout the day for one of mine, so if I see yours I'll get in touch.

Thanks everyone- 

I had no idea there were floor anchors!  There were a few times I tried to rig something around a 2X4 on the garage wall, but they were pathetic attempts.

Do you have property/renters insurance?  My renters insurance (through USAA) covered my stolen bike.  Something to look into, to make a sad time slightly less sad.

Sorry for your loss Holly. I also live in Lincoln Square and am kinda alarmed at the frequent thefts in the area. If you need help with the installation of an anchor point let me know, I am a contractor with high quality hammer drill to get the anchor installed properly ( I work for beer)
