I rode today. I was so. sweaty. I have been good with adding layers thus far... but less good with knowing when it woudl be ok to not wear an extra layer when its warmer.

Anyone know when the bridgework on Chicago is slated to end? I know it started 10/21....

That section of Chicago is horrible! Although, it finally gave me an excuse to try riding down those stairs on the sidewalk.

Oh yeah. I do that every day (well, I stop and ease my bike down them...) Even WITHOUT the construction, drivers are speeding way too fast over that really narrow bridge. And since the road is so wide before the bridge, the cars cross halsted, get into 3 lanes, and then all of those have to funnel over the one on the bridge. It's idiotic. And many drivers drive within inches of the curb, so you're essentially trapped breathing bus exhaust. Its just bad.

How'd that work out?

It was easy.

Kevin I think you need to add some blood to whichever part of that painting is the face. Everyone I know who has descended that staircase (usually by accident) has kissed the pavement. :)

i ate it down those stairs one night - first time riding that way when i first moved to chicago.  almost lost my "children" that evening. didnt help that i was on a fixie

Yea, same story here. I "jumped" (more like screamed like a baby and held on tight) the stairs one night after recently moving to the city. I know a lot of people with similar encounters with those stairs.

Riding down them is actually rally easy, just go slow and keep your weight back in the saddle (or behind the saddle). I do it with panniers on my front rack, when traffic is hairy on the bridge, no probs. Just watch out for peds.

Great ride today!

You bet we did. Into the wind. No time to wait out the storm, but that was ok. We're not soft, unlike, say, The Bears. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000282706/article/ravensbears-...

I rode yesterday to test ride a 650B bike owned by David P. Man, that bike is an absolute joy to ride: nimble, fast, precise steering...

On my way home I got caught in that noon-time storm. Absolutely exhilarating. Dark, leaves blowing, rain flying sideways...

I was out of town most of last week, so today was my first day back on the bike in a week.

Returning to a somewhat sore subject...

On the topic of obedience to the rules of the road, today in Edgewater I saw a school bus blow a stop sign (this was definitely not an Idaho stop, he barely slowed down), and as I approached Sheridan from Ardmore to get on the LFT, the light changed green for me, then someone southbound blew through the red light.
