The Chainlink

Saw a terrible accident while running on the Lakefront trail today, right where Wilson intersects with the path. Saw a cyclist on the ground, appeared to be unconscious, blood dripping down his face. He was wearing a helmet. I didn't witness the actual crash so I don't know exactly what happened, but I did see a minivan with its hazard lights on just a little down the road.

If anyone knows what happened and knows if the cyclist is/will be okay, I'd appreciate it.

Those intersections with Montrose, Wilson, and Lawrence are terribly dangerous and I really hope they are fixed when the north part of Lake Shore Drive gets its rehab. I almost got hit myself at Montrose just Friday by a car turning right without looking.

I meant a tattoo. That would complete him into a Cycling Chic Time Trial Hipster. We all should strive to be like him: The Universal Cyclist.

A sleeve? it was a short sleeve button down shirt, but I don't think that's what you mean...

I regularly get passed by a guy wearing a motorcycle helmet and a hi-vis safety vest on Lincoln. This seemingly safety-conscious rider BLOWS every red light.

i seent that guy, too!  there is also a cyclist riding around with a motorcycle helmet.

I saw someone in professional casual dress on a Divvy bike this morning, but he was wearing an aerodynamic TT helmet.  I blame the chainlink, he was covering all bases to avoid being labeled.

Also, REALLY wish I had my phone out to grab a pic.  Seriously, full teardrop aero time trial helmet on a Divvy.

I would guess he figured you saying they were a 'racer' was implying that they were kitted out in cycling apparel.  I assume the same thing; if they were not kitted out how did you come to the conclusion they were a 'racer?'

I didn't mention what anyone was wearing. I don't have a problem with peoples' sartorial choices while biking. I was just mentioning that at the same time when the OP saw a horrific crash, I came close to having one myself, because of someone who chose to use a crowded bike path as his personal racing track. But it appears I've hit a nerve.

Can we please not start ANOTHER thread on how cyclists in lycra are a menace? This thread is about a bike CAR accident and I am pretty sure where they were both wearing had nothing to do with it. I hope the cyclist is ok and I wish him/her a speedy recovery.

I see that guy, too! WTF? I'd say something but I doubt he could hear me in that insane helmet.

Hope the cyclist the OP saw yesterday is OK. So hard to see that and not worry.

You can't be responsible for knowing every raw nerve of every user here.

Carry on and don't give it any more thought.

I haven't seen him, but I've seen a couple riding a tandem where the guy at the front is wearing a TT helmet and a full kit.  Not quite sure what that was about since they were clearly out for a casual cruise.

Rachel, I did not mean to harp on you, it just seems as soon as anyone starts a new thread about the LFP, it turns into how many "racers" ride the path recklessly. Your experience and comments are not only welcome but NEEDED on this message board. I just ask that you use one of the existing threads or gabe's infamous "missed connections"

this thread was about a bike/car accident, and since the original post there has not been anything more about it posted.

Umm, this discussion is very fascinating, but does anyone know what happened and if the cyclist is okay?

Assuming it's the same guy, he works in my building. Software guy for Goldman.

can you ask him why he wears that?  perhaps to avoid a bloody face like the victim in the OP's description?  is that overkill?

Yes, does anyone know what happened and if the cyclist was okay?

BTW, I'm a lycra--wearing "kitted out" cyclist who races -- when I'm on the LFP, however, safety, courtesy, common sense and riding at a pace that conditions call for is the order of the day.

Next time I see him, I'll try to remember. We often don't arrive/leave at the same time though.
