PSA-- spread the word-- do not lock to the thin bars of a wrought iron fence

This one in tonight:

We get similar reports all the time-- at least one a week I'd say.

After unlocked/cable locked bikes, I'd say this is the next down in frequency (probably ahead of removed signposts even...)

Spread the word...

A couple years ago a couple Hispanic "gentlemen" in a scrap truck almost got one of my bikes from the fence. The neighbor had witnessed it. They notched the bar with a bolt cutter, then tied a rope from the rear bumper to the fence. The fence bar was pretty badly bent, and you could see they had made a second notch. It was winter and you could see the lines of trans fluid/oil in the alley where they were going forward then reverse. I was lucky, my neighbor was not, they got his bike with this same method.

People do PSA's about cable locks, right?  I read the registry often, usually to see pitfalls and to protect myself...  But I can't get over the number of "Combination Cable Locks" on there!!
