Can anyone recommend an affordable bike rack that will fit a Honda CRV? It looks like a spare tire rack is the most common solution. I searched Amazon but the reviews are overwhelming. We don't need anything fancy, just something solid that will hold two bikes. Apologies if this has been asked; I searched but nothing came up. Thanks in advance!

What year?

2002.
Most car makes/models have specific forums. Check those out as well as those should have users that have tried different bike racks.

Although not specifically listed as compatible with the CRV on their website, the Saris Bones fits nicely on my girlfriends CRV. The rack is very adjustable and fits on rests against the rear gate/glass on the drivers side of the spare tire. An added bonus is that it holds 3 bikes.

If you're not looking to invest in a hitch mounted carrier, I'd suggest this as a solid option.

Thanks for the recommendations! Actually the previous owners of the car did install a hitch receiver. I'd have mentioned that sooner but when I tried to confirm this with my husband he misunderstood me. If this opens up better possibilites I'd be grateful to hear what and why. $150 is as about much as we'd want to spend, and the less the better. Thanks again, all.

Definitely looks like a good option, thanks!

I have not seen the Bones in action this way, to the side of the spare. I will have to check that out.

The best option you have available is the Hitch Rack, 2 and 4 bike options out there.

They are a bit more in cost, but very secure and won't damage your vehicle.

Although we have the Bones on the CRV now, I echo the opinions of Lee and Cameron in a hitch rack being a better solution. Had a hitch rack similar to what you see on the front of buses on my old Jeep and it's by far the most convenient rack I've ever used. If you already have a hitch installed, it's well worth the few extra bucks to get a rack to mount in it instead of to the CRV itself.

I went with the Swagman XC, which was about $160 on Amazon. Couldn't justify spending $400 on a Thule T2 or similar. The Swagman gets solid reviews. Here's hoping it will work out. Thanks for all the input!
