The Chainlink

So Phil Keoghan, host of the Amazing Race, is riding across the country to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis. He will be coming through Chicago on Saturday, April 25th. Here's the thing. He has a video blog and some po-dunk towns have made HUGE deals of his coming and it would be cool if our cycling community can go big as well!

You DO NOT have to donate to ride but it would be nice of you.

And you DO have to fill out the waiver from the site listed below and bring it with ya.

Check out the video blog cause it's entertaining. And i can tell ya that Phil is an awesome guy. So it's worth supporting him and raising money for a good cause while riding your bike and showing what a great cycling city this is!

Bump....Added the event to the calendar. ;-)
I was looking around for more information, but the website wasn't extremely helpful.

The event time says "all day" but what time would the ride start? Is it a ride that you just can go with the pack for as long as you want and then turn back to head home? Or is their a route/mileage?
Hey Ashley. I can understand your frustration. My understanding is you can ride for as long as you like since Phil is doing over a hundred miles a day. As for the start time it's a little loosey goosey for the same reason. He gets done for the day, rests, and then goes to the event the next day (he's giving himself a fair amount of recoup time). I'll call the MS hotline tomorrow and see if they have a more solid start time. :-);-)
Thanks Guys!!! That was really helpful, maybe I'll see ya there!
am i crazy or that only a couple of miles?
Only a couple of miles to the pier sure, but it says cyclists are welcome to ride beyond the pier with Phil but there is no ride support...So you are on your own. ;-) If he's takin the Lakeshore path all the way South that would be a pretty nice ride to Indiana. ;-)
yeh, i just thought it was funny that they were having this "supported" ride for a total of 4-5 miles. but maybe ill come out and head down the path and back even though thats a ride im all too familiar with
Come out and keep right on riding! ;-) You can always turn back. ;-)

Hope some of ya that I didn't recognize came out (or perhaps are still riding). There was a good turnout of spandex warriors and many teams. ;-) I had technical difficulties with the geared bike i borrowed for the ride and had to head home. ;-( Serious bummer. ;-(
I rode with Phil south until Hyde Park, then turned back. Man, it was a fun ride! Phil's a good, down-to-earth guy. Just when we headed out from Navy Pier, he consulted his GPS unit for the route, but Chicago locals offered their expertise instead. Phil then quipped: "Contestants must choose between two tasks: Follow the GPS .... or follow the locals". You have to be a fan of the Amazing Race to get that joke.
I caught that. ;-) I also think there support van got a bit lost because you can't turn from Ontario onto Upper Michigan Ave. Me and a friend rode with them until they turned north on Lasalle. Glad you had fun JKT! ;-)
