The Chainlink

It's been a week since registration for Divvy opened. I seem to recall the confirmation screen claiming the keyfobs would be sent out in a week or so. Anyone receive theirs in the mail yet?

It could also be a ploy to get people to activate their FOB immediately :-o

You know, Duppie, you may just be right.  Oh, the deviousness of the City!  Oh the humanity!!

Anyone else got the wrong key? I couldn't activate mines because they sent me the wrong one

I haven't activated mine yet.

I activated mine. The key numbers seem random.

I noticed when I got the key that the number assigned to me the day I signed up, the number on the paper mailing, and the number on the fob, were all different. I have not yet tried to activate it.

I activated mine yesterday in anticipation of the pre-launch ride today.  No problems with it.  The number on the back of the key was not related to my user number.

I tried to active mines online for the pre-launch event and it gave me an error that it was the wrong key number. When I called I was told the wrong one was sent out and that they cannot activate the one I have under my account and that they needed to sent me a new one.

I'm waiting to activate my key until there's a bike station opened in a place that's more useful to me than the Loop.  I think that you don't need an activated key for tonight's "soft launch" of 200 bikes tonight @ 5:45 in Daley Plaza--the paper invite with the barcodes is tonight's key, as far as I can tell.  I'll probably phone Divvy later today to confirm that I can ride tonight without an activated key.

The Tribune article said one needs an activated key for tonight, so I just went ahead and did it.  I am most likely to use it in the loop anyway, and a day or two is not going to make a difference in the broad scheme of things.

Hmmm...you & Hilkevitch may be correct about this.  I just called Divvy and with some confusion on their end and a long pause on hold--they said yes, you need an activated key.  I've got my unactivated key with me, so I may just end up activating it tonight via cellphone from Daley Plaza so I can ride tonight.

Someone in the other Divvy thread heard (from a Divvy employee) that the fobs do not need to be activated for tonight. I'd prefer to wait to activate my membership until the first time I actually need to use it...

Saw a bunch of people out riding them this morning including quite a few docked along the Blackhawks parade route.

The first encounter I had was a gentlemen shoaling me on southbound State at Lake as I was waiting for the light to turn green.  He was about halfway into the lane before he realized he was being stupid.  This is going to be an interesting addition to fun stuff we already have to deal with.
