check ebay and craigslist for the next few months...quality of bike and use of angle grinder suggests a pro at work.  I've  heard of them waiting 4-5 months to sell the bike online (assume that owner moves on).

It is not, that was listed the day before mine was stolen. But you'd better believe my heart skipped about three beats when I first searched CList yesterday. I've unfortunately been through this ordeal before (as many of us have) so I'll be on Craigslist and Ebay a bunch in the coming weeks.

What is really, really dumb is that I have never locked it outside at my place of work before in the two years since my previous bike was stolen in the same spot. Every day I bring it up in to my office. Yesterday I was only going to be in for a few hours and saw the abundance of other bikes on the many racks (all within shot of security cameras) and said, 'Hey, why not?' Less than an hour and a half later it was gone.

Sorry to hear about the theft. grrr...

You might already know about it, but in case you don't, If This Then That (IFTT) can automate your craigslist searching. I've found that it works pretty well. https://ifttt.com/wtf

Better pic of the bike...

Cameras are useless and do not deter bike theft or any crime for that matter.  May I ask what type of U-lock you had? I have the New York style yellow U-lock. I read it would take about 10minutes to gnaw through with a angles grinder device. I plan on getting the Monster NY chain as well.

was security footage helpful at all?  i wish i could bring my bike into work.  apparently it's a safety hazard (but the building engineers' carts in the hallway aren't >eyeroll<).  anyways, that sucks.  would your u lock company compensate you at all?

yai, security footage is useless. What are the police really going to do if they see some barely visible shot of a man stealing a bike? Many crimes happen right under the citys "blue light cameras". A monster chain and spray painting your bike to make it look like a junk yard special is the way to go.

Had an ABUS lock and yeah, security footage is useless unless they actually catch the guy by some other fashion and then use the footage as supporting evidence to charge him.

No way it takes that long.  I have never been able to get my hands on a NY Kryptonite but the orange ones can be defeated in under a minute so I very much doubt you see that much of an increase.

There is no lock that cannot be quickly defeated with a cordless angle grinder!

The only sure way to not have a bike stolen is to bring it in.  My bike is only locked outside of stores, bars or in my gated back yard on my porch and even then only for short periods of time.  Outside of that it comes in with me wherever I am.

figured the footage would be useless unless it captured the license plate of the car he used to transport stolen bike if that's how it went down.  my first commuter bike was stolen almost two years ago and every time i come across a blue vintage cruiser i do a double take to see if it's mine.  anyways, that sucks and i can relate.  hope you have a replacement to get around on!
