Hello everyone,
My name is John Morrison and I'm a local photographer and designer, as well as a passionate cyclist.
A few years ago my friend Tyler was struck and killed on his ride home through Logan Square.
I've been thinking recently that I'd like to honor Tyler's memory and others with compiling a photo book about those who we've lost here in Chicago. My idea is that it could be sold in bike shops and such and a portion of the proceeds would go to a charity TBD that works to promote cyclist safety.
What I'm looking for is to find a good list of all the current Ghost Bikes in Chicago, and preferably some details about who these folks were. Ghostbikes.org has a decent list: http://ghostbikes.org/ghostbikemap/Chicago but I'm pretty sure there are others.
I was hoping to enlist the help of the Chainlink community to build a more comprehensive list as well as any other help or suggestions to make this happen.
Thanks!
-John

Thanks, that's a huge help. That's really discouraging to me that people would want to do that. Out of respect though I'm more than happy to keep it under wraps. If anyone wants to contact me directly on here to help I'd appreciate it.

John,
You may want to get in touch with this gal:
<geneabarnes@geneabarnes.com>
She's filming a documentary about Ghost Bikes and gets into town on Friday-- I've been working with her already to identify which bikes are still up. Would rather not have that information listed publicly in one convenient place as there have been threats by various individuals outside the community to make a project out of taking them all down.
I would also ask that others here avoid publicly listing current Ghost Bike locations for this same reason.
Critical Massers should do a Ghost Bike Tour. Hit every one. Might take all night. . .
That already happens. It is called the "Ride of Silence". Third Wednesday in May

H' :I work 60-70 hour weeks at three jobs, and just don't have the time or energy to organize. I don't intend to be a slacker, but just to offer ideas that someone else might have the time/energy for in my occasional 5-minute internet breaks. . .
John,
I'm a reporter with the Chicago Tribune. I'd love to chat with you for a story I'm working on for tomorrow's newspaper... When you get a few minutes, could you give me a call at 312-222-4414? I'd really appreciate it! Thanks,
Ellen Jean Hirst

The Chicago Ride of Silence will continue to visit ghost bikes each year. Unfortunately due to the constraints of the Ride and its time we simply cannot visit all the ghost bikes. This year the Ride of Silence route did go south. As the ride and route evolve, we hope it's inclusive and serves to honor the memory of all we have lost on our roads.
