Anyone know a local bike shop that has a VO Constructeur front rack in stock

VO says it won't fit a bike with a disc brake, but it is not clear why.

I'd like to hold it up to my bike and if it fits buy it.

As always, bikeshops on the North and Northwest side are preferred.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Duppie,

I have both a front and back V-O Constructeur rack. I just pulled out the front and googled some disc brake pictures on the internet. I would bet the front rack would clear disc brakes. You're welcome to drop by sometime and compare the actual rack to your bike, if you'd like.

While it's a nifty rack, I actually switched back to my Nitto M12. The Nitto M12 positions the load about an inch further back and significantly reduces annoying wheel flop when I'm carrying a front load. I also noticed the Constructeur rack limited front fork flex, so the Nitto is more comfortable as well.

One advantage of the Constructeur rack might be that you could carry some panniers.  The cantilever brakes limit the size of the panniers, though I had come up with a design and pattern I had wanted to try. If you have disc brakes, you would not be as limited by size.

I think the best design are the convertible racks such as these: http://veloflaneur.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/dsc_0135.jpg

I'm by Harlem and Belmont - write me off list if you want to meet up.  Best, Garth
