The Chainlink

They didn't plow the protected bike lane in the loop this morning.

According to CDOT, the Dearborn lane has been plowed.

I thought your post below was in response to my post with the Federal bldg phone number and the call I made, because it appeared right after it in the list, but now I can see it was in response to the post about the difficulties in using the 311 system. I was confused because you didn't use the Reply link in the post you were responding to.  No contradiction.

Huh? Not sure what you think you're contradicting here-- I advocated for putting in a city service request for pretty much everything before considering further action.

Yeah, but you got to start somewhere.  And if they get multiple calls (or even better, emails if you can find an address), they might make more of an effort to make a change.

Same problem when you call it in-- the operator has to figure out which round hole to try to fit a square request into. Is there not something like a basic snow removal request option? That's what the operators end up doing (which misses the root of the problem, of course.)

How about a phone call directly to the ward streets and sanitation office? Which ward would this be?

I had an e-mail from Alderman Moreno's office yesterday that said that the city council voted to have the new ward boundaries take effect now.  We were told that if our ward changed we should contact the alderman in the new ward.  I happen to be in the part of Wicker Park that is now part of the abomination that is the 2nd ward. ;-)

Not technically the 4th ward until 2015.  For now, it's still the 2nd ward.  You can contact Alderman Fioretti at ward02@cityofchicago.org or by phone (312 263 9273).

You're a hard man to agree with, JeffB.

Doesn't that mean that Fioretti is out?

I heard about this proposal, but haven't heard anything further about the city council voting on it (I'm in the current/old 2nd ward). Totally off topic here, but what a clusterf*ck this is turning into.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing about you. :)

I am sorry I got this really OT, but what the heck, its the Chainlink.  From what I understand he does not live in the new 2nd ward and cannot run again for the ward unless he moves into it.   I don't know enough about it, but my guess is that he is alderman of the ward until the next election--2015.

The "problem" presented in the thread seems to be resolved, so I don't see the harm in meandering...

His office is not in the ward either. I heard he was going to fight it and then decided not to?

I never did hear the backstory of why he got this treatment from the rest of the council.

Fioretti lives in a portion of the "new" 28th. This ward remap wasn't even on my radar screen. This is the new map. Creative even by Chicago standards. I remained in the 1st by half a block.

Well, then, given that I am meandering with the "thread police" ;-) . . . . .I never heard the story either--only that people with control were "out to get him".  I am really out of the political loop.  The cost of such a lawsuit would be huge and he would have to find a way to fund it.   I believe he would have to challenge the entire map.  Again, knowing nothing about election law, I don't know if it is still possible.  He was doing some fundraising this past fall, but I have not gotten anything for him lately.

IMHO, in their effort to get at Bob Fioretti they did an incredible disservice to a part of the city.  We still operate under a system where the alderman has a lot of power and how any alderman is going to get things done for the constituents of the new 2nd Ward is beyond me.  I am just glad they went to grid garbage pick-up!
