i heard on th enews once that a bike shop had record sales when the gas prices soared and then fell again when the gas prices went back down.
I'm not sure how many bike companies are currently trading publicly in the NYSE or NASDAQ. Trek is not publicly traded, neither is SRAM, Specialized...etc. Cannondale is apparently kind of a weird situation that I know nothing about.
Overseas (like Taiwan, where I'm originally from), companies like Giant, Merida, Sun Race (Sturmey-Archer) etc. are trading publicly there, and all appear to be doing fine amidst the current economic crisis.
I posted earlier once about Giant employees in Taiwan getting year-end bonuses (2008) equivalent to 23 months salary due to record profits worldwide. Majority of bikes around the world that are made in Taiwan are actually made by Giant.
