Looking for an ace mechanic who'll rebuild my '99 Manitou SX Ti forks.

My forks finally sprung a leak after 13 years of great service.  I'd like to find a shop/mechanic who can rebuild/overhaul this dinosaur of suspension forks and who has or can easily get the parts it might need in the process.

Any recommendations?  Johnny Sprockets on Bryn Mawr?  REI?  who's your favorite Service department?

thanks!

The problem isn't finding the mechanic, but rather the parts. All this new and ever-changing technology simply isn't supported. If an overhaul is what you need it's certainly possible, however, if any parts are required I'd imagine you are S.O.L. The same goes for most any IGH or hydraulic disc brake parts more than two or three years old. The industry has no interest in continued support for these. Hell, you can't even get some recent proprieitary Shimano spokes. I wouldn't say "planned" obsolesence, but rather obsolesence due to disregard for anything other than the most current.

Here is a link to a vintage suspension rebuilder.  The rebuild manual for you fork is listed on the lower right.  You could talk to a local shop about getting parts and trying the rebuild or do it yourself.  If need be box up the fork and send it to these guys.  Hope that helps.

Thanks, Bailey.  The lack of parts availability is exactly what I was afraid of.  I'll try my luck and hope that I don't need any parts.  Actually, I think I just blew out the seals when I injected grease into it, but who knows?  I just thought I'd get it overhauled since it was being opened up anyway.

Your response is much appreciated.

Thanks, Lawrence.  I'd like to get it done locally if at all possible.  In the past ('85-'93 and to '98 to '02) I was a bike mechanic but haven't overhauled hydraulic forks.  I don't think I want to start learning now, although I've seen the manuals and explod-o-matic drawings before.  I'll definitely keep your reco in mind if it gets that far.
