The RTA is unveiling a new mobile version of it’s GoRoo trip planning site. I’m not sure what it adds over existing apps like Hop Stop, but it could be useful.

I think it's mostly useful for suburban users, especially those who need to drive to the train station. Google Maps and other apps cannot give you driving directions in the same result as transit directions. 

I almost always recommend native apps. Grid Chicago has posted reviews foriOS and Android users. However, the CTA's mobile website is extremely fast, even over older EDGE connections (which I have on my T-Mobile iPhone).
