I'm new here and if this project has been posted in here before, I apologize.

This is a project I've been doing for a few months. Just thought I'd share...

iNaturalist Roadkill Project

Wildlife occur almost everywhere people do. We like them and take them for granted. However, we are also losing them at an alarming rate. Because roads criss-cross many landscapes, they provide a convenient place from which to see certain wildlife. They are also where many animals die, hit by cars or trucks. Our project collects observations of wildlife along roads (and off them too) so that we can understand where they live and are moving to. In the case of roadkill, we also want to understand what causes roadkill, which animals are affected, whether or not there are roadkill "hotspots" and what we can do to reduce roadkill impacts on wildlife.

By contributing wildlife observation data, you help us to understand where wildlife live and the threats they face from (mostly) human activities.   It helps a lot if you contribute a picture of the animal with your observation. Don't worry if you can't identify an animal to the species level right away. A picture will help us to do it and just saying "rabbit" or "hawk" is useful information too.

I commute 30+ miles/day and I'm one of the top contributors (not surprising).

Please be careful out there!

I've been keeping an informal road-kill journal in the city myself--not of stuff I've killed, but stuff I've seen.  Friday, two rats and one rabbit, all between Evanston and Rogers Park.

Log'em in. I'd be cool to start seeing folks from the Chicago area participate.

I've logged 104 observations since May. Sad to say.
