Advice for Finding Vending Bike

I am searching for a vending bike or a tricycle that has a cargo basket that I can gut and convert into a cargo seat for a child, any suggestions where to look would be greatly appreciated? Craigslist and word of mouth have not been very fruitfull and I cannot afford a sexy dutch bike :(

While I have no idea what a used vending bike / tricycle goes for, nor do I know what your price range is for the bike you're seeking, I note that Joe Bike has a range of front-loading cargo bikes. One of their bikes, the Box Bike, starts at $1,700, which is real reasonable for this type of bike.

I've seen them on Craigslist from time to time, I guess you just have to keep looking.

I know that one of the warehouses for the icecream vendors who use bikes in on Lawrence just west of the river. I see mass of them lined up when I walk past. Maybe take a trip up there and see if there is anyone you could talk to?

craigslist search on key words: adult tricycle or adult trike

...and you will find a slew of them priced reasonably usually between $150 and $350. hope this helps.

TY for posting that great link. The only bad thing is all the more options I have to choose from; I had no idea how much of a project my bike-basket search would be. If you see this response, which bike carrier did U go with?

If you want to test ride some examples before buying, I'd check out JC Lind Bicycles on Wells Street. They have several trike/front loader options.  They also sell some "long tail" options like the Yuba Mundo.  I would recommend trying a variety of options in person before settling on a new or even a used (less expensive) model.  The handling for trikes and box bikes is VERY different than that for long-tails (with cargo space in the rear). Another good place for research is chicargobike.org. They run a nice site with lots of links to stuff. They also help host (I think) some of the chicago cargo bike roundups, where people will usually let you test their rides.  Good luck with your search!

Dunno, the kid looks like he has a watermelon on his head and Dad's helmet looks like it came out of a cereal box. They're probably foreigners who wear weird stuff.
