Fixed gear woes solved

Looks like someone has finally come up with a fixed gear bike that's geared appropriately to the terrain in Chicago and it's available cheap!

I have decided to sell my fixie as I am now spinning out on the gearing. The only way to get more gear inches is to go to a 36'er so that is what I am buying.

size 56 CM
brand-unknown old school steel
steering is a bit weird with the fork reversed but it looks cooler that way,
this bike will do about 50 MPH at 110 RPM, great commuter rig

Very similar to the speed record bicycle from 1962, I remember reading about it in Bicycle Quarterly.

"In the sum­mer of 1962, nine miles of the auto­bahn in Freiberg, Ger­many were closed for French­man Jose Meiffret to set a new cycling speed record.  His bicy­cle was setup with a 130-tooth chain­ring (and 15t cog to equal 225 gear inches), equipped with wooden rims so they won’t over­heat and weighed a hefty 44lbs (20 kg).  A Mercedes-Benz 300 SL was to be in front of him to act as his wind­shield.  They needed quite a sporty Mer­cedes because well, he had inten­tions of break­ing 120mph and in the 1960′s, that was very fast even for a car."

It increases the trail, doesn`t it?  To make it more stable at high speeds I guess..

If you have enough gear inches that you aren't really stable until you hit 20-30 I don't think the backward fork matters.

Interesting, it looks like the first rider also reversed his fork. The guy that motorpaced at 127mph also reversed his fork.
