Bike Shop Job ad info?

Anyone with intel on the below ad two weeks old specifically are they really looking for a "full time, year around" employee even-though the season is over? We just started handing out one month notices at our shop to all the seasonal folks today it is too bad but this is the industry...

Established bicycle shop in Pilsen is in search of a bike shop manager. We need a responsible and resourceful person to run our entire retail operation. You would manage our mechanics, order parts, be responsible for bicycle sales, bicycle service, track sales figures... everything to run a small business.

Ideal candidate will have

Prior management experience
Prior bicycle shop or retail experience
Bicycle mechanic skills
Ability to communicate with staff and customers

We offer a competitive earnings, paid vacation, medical insurance. This is a full time, year around, permanent position. We are an established shop with professional experienced mechanics.

Sometimes employees leave stores, I don't think the timing has to do with the season, necessarily. This is probably Irv's.

I thought Working Bikes was all volunteer staffed. That would be kind of a fun gig, actually.

Working Bikes has a handful of paid staff. Four or five positions I think? 

Weird that if is either Irv's or WB that the ad would not mention a need for spoken proficiency in Spanish.

I too thought Working Bikes was all donations and volunteer run. I may need to stop by tomorrow and see what they are looking for if it is their ad. I checked their website and saw no announcement or a mention of staff at all.

Working Bikes has insisted on (wrongly) touting its location as Pilsen since moving to 24th Place and Western, so that's where my money's at. I know the owner of Irv's-- I just can't see him using the words "to run our entire retail operation."

Just remember-- Working Bikes is like Santa, and nobody wants to hear anything bad about it, so if there's a juicy story re: how this opening came to be, I'd suggest we keep it off the forum.

New shop on 18th and Ashland?  

Also - isn't Working Bikes essentially in Pilsen? Technically they're in "Heart of Italy" which is sort of part of "Heart of Chicago" but since those neighborhoods are never mentioned I think it's easier to use Pilsen as a cover-all. If you disagree, they're only a 5, 10 minute hop, skip, jump from Pilsen proper. That entire area confuses me.

Pilsen is like Lincoln Park- it magically expands when someone's looking for higher rents or real estate sale prices. Technically everything between 1700 and 2500 W. is Heart of Chicago, and Pilsen only extends from Canal to Ashland. Would probably be OK to describe WBC as being in "Pilsen/Little Village" as that's an established usage by various organizations and social service agencies that serve the in-between area.

Turns out there's no juicy story-- old manager decided it was time to move on, gave notice, and position  now open.  Disappointing, huh?

For the record, I usually call it Little Village/Pilsen, but I stand by the belief that I'll divide Bridgeport into Hardscrabble and Hamburg before I call the area around Harrison Park the Heart of Chicago.

The add should also mention, no insurance, or benefits of any kind, a high turnover rate (meaning managers, as well as every body else), angry employees in the winter, and the pay is what? 

Sounds good as long as you know what star you are hitching your wagon too.
