No riding today. Instead spent 2.5 hours solo in a canoe on the Fox River. Stick a fork in me, I'm done.

Yes. All week except yesterday.

It's hot. But if I slow down and hydrate I feel OK.

Not today--forecast possibly 105!  But I am wondering if the couple of blocks walk from the bus won't be worse than the 6.5 mile ride would be.

I actually got a few nice lake breezes this morning, mostly from n of diversey to north ave.  Gotta love Chicago's air conditioner.  But it was spotty relief; no breezes on Northerly Island.  Still, took it slow and drank more often.  I did 30 miles Tuesday evening and went through 3x my normal water intake plus the gatorade that's been sitting in my bag forever.

It's crazy the extremes the human body can tolerate.  In the past two years I've ridden in -5 degrees to 105 degrees.  That's a 110 degree shift!

Yep - those of us commuting to a 9am-5pm job are relatively fortunate. When it is hot, at least the ride to work is much less hot than the ride from work. It was pretty nice this morning especially through the canopy of trees on Plymouth.

10:00 to 11:30: not as muggy and comfortable in the shade. I stopped sweating after only 5 minutes.

I watched the fireworks last night at Belmont Harbor's north point and some creep stole one of my flagpoles. What is with people? Taking something they are not going to use. Or, are they going to take it home and show the hids, "Hey, look what I stole last night." I got a new one this morning.

My standing rule is that if my commute is over 90F then I stop for ice cream on the way home.  This summer's temps have forced me to amend the rule - if over 95F then I stop for a beer.  Not sure what I should do if it's over 100F.

Ha! I had a Guinness float at a joint up in Lincoln Square. I love ice cream and I love Guinness, but some things, like these are best enjoyed separately.

Since my herbs are doing wonderfully, I've found a refresher to replace my traditional post ride Bud Light (at least while it's HellHot outside).  In a pint glass I put orange mint, taragon, basil, and one lime quartered; muddle that with a packet of splenda; fill with ice and water; mix.  Yummy!

Would probably be good with an ounce of vodka or rum as well...

Did you notice the debris left behind in the fireworks staging area south of the harbor this morning?  Must have been some display.  Too bad they couldn't be bothered to clean up after themselves.  Cops must take a laissez faire approach to these displays.

I did not get that far south, but Belmont Harbor's north point was all cleaned up by 10:15 this morning.
