Starved Rock. July 7-9, 2012 (3 days)

would like to make this a 3-day-er so the bones can relax a bit longer. lets nail down some dates.

 

Slingshot via metra to Joliet.  google maps proposed route.  ~62 miles along the I&M canal trail that follows the Des Plaines and Illinois Rivers, and of course, the canal and is almost entirely off roads. there is a shortcut that can shave 3 miles but takes ya off the I&M trail.

Iggy and crew- I have to be back for Sunday morning's jewish-muslim bike ride at 10 am downtown. Do you think I could leave with you guys saturday and make it back sunday morning? Maybe I ride with you and my sister drives there and we go back early sunday am?

looks like we need to leave from the LaSalle St station (414 S. LaSalle Street Chicago, IL), 8:30am, which will bring us to joilet at 9:51.

we can take the hertiage corridor train back, less stops and quicker on monday at 5:55pm, or take the rock island train again at 6:15pm or 7:05pm

hey all -- hector and i are planning to drive (sad face) bc we need to be back for work on monday morning and we aren't too keen on having to turn around and ride right back to chicago early sunday morning.  so we'll drive over on saturday and back to chicago sunday night or early monday morning.  

we could potentially take some gear with us to lighten your loads if there's anything big you want to give us (but know that we might come back sunday night, in which case you'd need to take it back on your bike on monday).

ok cool. I'll talk to my sister.  Is there even enough room for her, her husband and two kids (and me and boyfriend)?  They camp a lot and are cool with parties. 

If not, can we get up there Thurs or Friday to get a campsite?

I will return on Sun as well. Just checked Metra schedule and found out it doesn't run on weekends. What train should I take to come back? igz, you mentioned about leaving from Lasalle Station, what train is that?

for what it's worth, if we return on sunday evening and loan does as well, our site will be wide open on sunday night.  

not sure if anyone else wants to come just for sunday night? (julie, are you guys planning to return after the ride on sunday? if so your sister et al could take our site)

p.s. loan, not sure what time we'd be leaving on sunday night but we might be able to give you a ride if our schedules sync up...

Loan - you may have to get a ride Sunday.  If you want to try to hitch a ride Sunday early morning, at least we could ride with everyone sat and spend one night camping.

Do they keep some open for day of on Thur or Fri?  Or can we reserve by phone or online with only 2 weeks notice?
